A bishop in Sri Lanka expressed his greater hope for justice as the new government in Colombo confirmed the opening of a new investigation into the suicide bombings in the Southeast Asian nation on Easter Sunday of 2019.
Cardinal Ranjith stated that “This is a beginning, and it is a very happy beginning, and we are very happy that the learned judges gave us such hope for a future for this country, which is a much-needed hope for the development of our nation.”
In a special statement released on November 8, Cardinal Ranjit stated that “Cruel and intolerable suppression exercised or being exercised by the existing Government against the leaders of protests and activists for Human rights in the country." Particularly, he condemned the Government for “the abusive and unjustified manner” in which the prevention of terrorism act is used for “arresting social leaders and those engaged in peaceful resistance to such policies.”
