Chinese bishop

Reflecting on the faith and communion of Chinese Catholics, two Chinese bishops, Joseph Yang Yongqiang and Vincent Zhan Silu, extended their greetings to Pope Francis and other delegates at the ongoing Synod on Synodality, Vatican City, in October 2024.

The Holy See announced that the Chinese government has officially recognized under civil law Bishop Melchior Hongzhen Shi as the bishop of Tianjin.

This visit of a few days, prepared by the Verbiest Foundation, marks the resumption of exchanges between the churches of Belgium and China.
