A neighborly Shepherd: Fr. Tom's return sparks joy among Displaced Families

Fr. Tom's resilience and the community at SFS Church, Narangi, Guwahati, India.

In the quiet neighborhood of Narangi, Guwahati, the displaced community from Manipur, India, came together for an intimate Thanksgiving service at the local SFS Church.

They were there to welcome back their beloved neighbor and humble guide, Fr. Tom, after his miraculous recovery from a life-threatening heart attack.

Fr. Tom, known affectionately as a 'friend to all,' has quietly but powerfully devoted himself to serving displaced families in Assam and Meghalaya through his initiative, "Solidarity for Manipur."

This simple but impactful mission has provided much-needed support such as food, clothing, blankets, medical care, and education for hundreds who have lost their homes and stability.

His return was greeted with heartfelt joy and deep gratitude by those who consider him not just a priest but a friend, a neighbor, and a guardian. The gathering, lovingly organized by Ms. Kimcha Singsit, was filled with touching prayers, songs, and words of thanks.

Ms. Chongpi led the prayers, while Ms. Emma’s soulful praise song filled the room with warmth. Pu Mang Kipgen’s keynote address reflected the deep connection Fr. Tom shares with the community, and scripture readings by Ms. Neoboi Singsit reminded everyone of the strength that comes from faith.

Fr. Tom’s dedication to his neighbors was honored by Fr. Ganes, Administrator of SFS School, and Mr. Allen Brooks, who expressed admiration for his quiet but unwavering commitment.

Fr. Tom himself spoke softly but with profound gratitude for the overwhelming support and love he received during his recovery, emphasizing that it was the strength of the community's prayers that lifted him through his darkest days.

Rev. J Mang Dgl led a special blessing prayer, and the evening closed with Ms. Kimchoi of Kingdom Kids School offering a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by a peaceful benediction and refreshments shared among neighbors.

For those who attended, it wasn’t just a celebration of Fr. Tom’s recovery, but of the spirit of kindness and neighborly love that he embodies.

One attendee expressed it simply, "Fr. Tom is more than a priest to us. He’s family. His return is a blessing, and we thank God for giving him back to us."

Fr. Tom's humble mission of caring for his neighbors continues to be a beacon of hope and transformation, reminding us all of the quiet, everyday miracles that happen when we look out for one another.
