Jesuit priest: A witness of faith in action in Timor Leste

A seasoned Jesuit missionary to Timor Leste is a living testament of faith and endurance.

He has spent 21 years in Timor-Leste, moving from Suai to Dili to Railaco before returning to Suai.

East Timor's Suai Subdistrict is home to the city of Suai. It is home to 9,866 people and is situated 138 kilometers southwest of Dili, the national capital. Suai, the capital of the Cova Lima District, is located in the country's southwest.

Father Joseph Phuong, a Jesuit priest from Vietnam, has spent much of his life doing missions in the local church of Timor-Leste.

Despite being alone, in the meantime, in the Suai mission, Father Joseph has been spending a lot of his time and efforts with the people of Suai.

He coordinates efforts to provide clean water facilities and comfort rooms to areas with poor access to water, with the help of Jesuit Social Service in Timor-Leste.

He also organizes a basic ecclesial community in Suailoro to build their church.

Father Phoung has an amazing zeal and capacity to motivate the local community to build from scratch and to trust in the providence of God, who takes care of His church.

He is indeed a witness of faith in action.
