Who Do You Say That I Am?
August 8, Thursday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Dominic, priest
Daily Readings: Jeremiah 31:31-34; Matthew 16:13-23
Jesus' question, “Who do you say that I am?” reveals the true intentions and understanding of His disciples. While the crowd offers varied responses, Peter boldly declares that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God. This declaration marks a pivotal moment in Jesus' ministry and Peter’s role among the apostles.
In the region of Caesarea Philippi, where temples to Philip and Caesar stood, Peter’s confession acknowledges Jesus as the long-awaited Savior and reveals a deep understanding of His divine nature. This passage sets the stage for Peter's future leadership in the early Christian community.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Today, we must ask ourselves: Who is Jesus to me? How do I experience Him daily? Do we have the courage to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah in times of faith and crisis?
As we seek grace to deepen our faith, let us cherish God's presence and boldly confess, like Peter, the reality of Jesus as our Savior. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
