Total Surrender to God
April 16, Tuesday of the Third Week of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 7:51—8:1a; John 6:30-35
Stephen, one of the followers of Jesus, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He bravely confronted the council of elders, reminding them that they had received the law from the angel but had failed to observe it. Then they threw Stephen out of the city and stoned him to death.
Instead of fighting back, Stephen welcomed his death by saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell to his knees and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”
The Gospel for today reminded us that Jesus is the true bread coming from heaven. As people kept on asking Jesus for signs for them to believe in him, Jesus emphasized to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
How many of us seek signs to confirm our beliefs and convictions? Do we rely on a sign to make decisions in life? Why don't we open our eyes and surrender our trust to God?
We must respond to Jesus' invitation that he is the true bread of life and that those who come to him will never be hungry or thirsty. We don't need a sign anymore; we just need to surrender everything to Him.
Lord Jesus, forgive us for asking for signs; please help us to surrender our lives to you. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
