“These works that I perform testify on my behalf.”
December 16, Friday of the Third Week of Advent
Daily readings: Isaiah 56:1-3a, 6-8; Gospel: John 5:33-36
Jesus confirms John the Baptist's testimony once more, this time through his teaching. The second is regarding the testimony of Jesus himself. Everything he did, both preaching and doing good deeds, shows that it was the Father who sent him.
This is confirmed in verse 36: “But I have testimony greater than John." The work that the Father gave me to accomplish is greater than John’s.” If Jesus himself gave testimony about himself, many people would not believe it. But Jesus' work—the power he showed when he taught and did miracles—is the best proof of who he was.
We need not concern ourselves with the ideas and words of others regarding ourselves. If their opinion is false, there is no need for you to identify yourself. Just do the work we need to do today since the work we do defines who we truly are while praying to God for assistance in enlightening human reason.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
