The Shepherd Voice
May 2, Tuesday, 4th Week of Easter
Memorial of Saint Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Daily Readings: 1st Reading – ACTS 11:19-26; Gospel: John 10:22-30
In this fourth week of Easter, our readings continue to focus on the spreading of good news to different places. As the disciples go to other places, more and more people believe in the Gospel. Then, the word "Christians" was called to the disciples in the place called Antioch. As a result, many people worldwide believe and are converted, as stated in the responsorial Psalms, “All the nations praise the Lord."
In today's gospel, Jesus is still being challenged by the Jews to prove himself if he is truly the so-called “Christ.” Jesus informed them that many times they were told, but they refused to believe, for Jesus emphasized that as a good shepherd, his sheep heard his voice and followed them.
The analogy of Jesus as the good shepherd is like those patients coming for treatment in the hospital. The moment they decided to be confined in the hospital, they entrusted their lives to the medical team. Whatever the doctor prescribed as the treatment for their disease, they totally agreed and followed it religiously, believing that whatever illness they were suffering from would be treated. Just like those sheep who follow the voice of their shepherd, once they recognize the voice, they follow him.
We pray for a welcoming heart and a listening ear to listen to God’s voice attentively and to follow His will. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
