Perseverance
May 30, 2024 Thursday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Peter 2:2-5, 9-12; Mark 10:46-52
The first reading shows that Jesus is the cornerstone. God invites his people to come to the Lord, the living stone rejected by people as worthless but chosen by God as valuable.
In today's Gospel, Bartimaeus, the blind man, received a miracle of healing. The blind man was very courageous to approach Jesus to help him, shouting Jesus' name so many times and asking for his mercy.
Ultimately, Jesus listened to him and fulfilled his desire to see. According to Jesus, his faith made him well. Full of joy, Bartimeus rejoices as he follows Jesus on the road.
The perseverance of Bartimaeus in calling Jesus' name is admirable. Though he was blind, his sense of hearing was good. When he heard that Jesus was passing by, he kept on shouting until Jesus heard him.
Perseverance is defined as not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity—the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: We believe that through prayers and perseverance, we overcome the darkness of our lives. God is loving and merciful, and he hears our prayers. Sometimes it takes longer for God to hear us, but we should not lose hope, just as Bartimaeus persevered to hear from Jesus.
Lord, please help us to persevere in life and not lose hope. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
