Our lives should inspire others to grow in faith
February 24, Thursday, 7th Week In Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: James 5:1-6; Mark 9:41-50
In the first reading, St. James speaks about the miseries coming from hoarding riches and relying upon them. Those who live in pleasure and find life secured will suffer deeply because their idolized treasures will soon perish.
In the gospel, Jesus says, "Whoever gives you a cup of water in my name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward." Salt is good, but how will you make it salty again if salt has lost its saltiness?
The call to live the life of a Christian is challenging. Those who live for pleasure are the ones who experience the troubles of life due to their erotic ways of living. One cannot rely on riches and enjoy them because everything worldly standard will perish soon. Jesus is harsh on those who cause scandal to others. That is why Jesus uses the analogy of salt, which is used to preserve things from rotting.
Similarly, our lives should be a model for others to imitate and grow in faith. Each of us should work to bring about cleansing and arrest corruption, as it will help us purify ourselves.
What sort of an influence can I have over others regarding my dealings with them? Do I live an edifying life? If that is so, my everyday dealings with others should be a source of enlightenment for them to follow Christ and his ways.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
