Only God's might can conquer the spirit of evil
July 23, Saturday, 16th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily readings: Jeremiah 7:1-11; Gospel: Matthew 13:24-30
Evil is in opposition to God. Its primary intent is to destroy the good that God has made: everything that bears God’s love, anything that expresses his goodness.
In this way, Jesus recognizes and identifies the existence of evil in the world and its capacity to use destructive power within the created order.
He is aware of its power to inflict suffering and pain. The evil one is out there simply to destroy God’s beautiful creation, humans and non-humans alike, and his leading agent of destruction is humanity itself.
Just as we can be instruments of God’s goodness, so too can we become means of unleashing this evil power. The evil one’s focus on destruction is "relationships." Relationships are an essential element of creation.
Human society, family, and friendship collapse when a relationship breaks down. The environment and the natural world decline when human relationships with them are characterized by alienation.
Let us build a stronger relationship with our God to defeat the power of evil that might distance us from him.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
