The Offering
December 28, Wednesday, Feast of the Holy Innocents, martyrs
Daily Readings: 1 John 1:5—2:2 ; Gospel: Matthew 2:13-18
Offerings play an important role in our life of worship. From the very inception of faith going back to the ancients, offerings have been made as a gesture of communion and communication with God. Hence even in the cultic aspect of our faith as Christians we value the power of offerings. The Eucharist itself is an offering, though made unique as its nature is still deeply intertwined with the self-offering of Jesus.
Today, the feast of the holy innocents, we also take into memory an offering. A clear reminder that from the very start the journey of the Christ was already marred by challenges and the foreshadowing of the cross that he would bare for the sake of all creation. In fact this served as the model for our forefathers and mothers who would likewise make an offering of themselves for the sake of Christ. From whose blood the church is founded.
This Christmas season what are you willing to offer to the Lord? For certain we have received gifts not only recently but for sure our whole life. But how far are we willing to share in our common call to bring Christ each day? What are we willing to offer?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
