Never Turn Back

Etiology is the study of origins and causes. This term is derived from the Greek word aetiologia, which means "to explain for." During biblical times, it is said that near the Dead Sea, people found so many salt pillars. This incident is said to explain the reason for the salt pillars found in the sea area. Though the biblical exegesis explains this in this way, the passage today has an important life lesson.
In today’s first reading, Lot’s wife turned back and became a pillar of salt. In today’s gospel, Jesus’ disciples, instead of going forward, turn back, fearing the roaring waves of the sea. This turning back is a sign of disbelief or a lack of faith. How could it be? The angels of the Lord told Lot to run away to safeguard their lives.
Here, Lot’s wife has the urge to turn back against the warning of the angel of the Lord. This urge is due to her interest in seeing what is happening.
In another way, she wants to confirm that it is happening. This shows her little faith. The apostles, on the other hand, woke Jesus up to save their lives. It shows their little faith in Jesus. The sea can't sink their boat when Jesus is on it. The apostles must proceed without fear because Jesus is there to save them.
In our lives, too, we turn back, fearing the worries and problems of the world. Let us move forward because Jesus is with us.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
