Mercy is the nature, essence, the name of God
March 14, Monday 2nd Week of Lent
St. Matilda
Daily Readings: Daniel 9:4b-10 & Luke 6:36-38
In the Gospel reading, Jesus said to his disciples, "Be merciful, just as your father is merciful." The golden rule reveals God in the person of Jesus Christ as mercy. Mercy is the nature, the essence, the quality, and the name of God.
God loves all of us unconditionally by being compassionate, and in other words, being merciful means loving people unconditionally - not judging, not condemning, and forgiving are all acts of mercy.
Human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. God has shared his nature, essence, and quality with us. Hence, we are called to imitate Him by being merciful to those we meet. Following in the footsteps of Jesus, one can be compassionate in one’s thoughts, words, and actions.
People can develop an attitude of understanding rather than judging. As a replacement for condemning, one can love the person and forgive as a replacement for blaming. By practicing these virtues, a person can grow in the image and likeness of God and may become merciful. It is a challenge for every Christian.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
