Marriage means love triumphs over selfishness
February 25, Friday, 7th Week In Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: James 5:9-12; Mark 10:1-12
St. James says not to grumble so that you may not be judged. Further on, he says to take the example of those blessed and steadfast like Job. Do not swear either by heaven, earth, or any other oath. The Pharisees come up with a question of divorce. Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? Jesus responded by saying, "What did Moses command you to do?" He went on to say, "Whoever divorces and marries another commits adultery."
Through persecution, trials, and sufferings, we are called to be patient, and, in doing so, God will come to our rescue. We can face any difficulties because he will reward those faithful to his word when Christ returns in glory.
In a marriage, the relationship between two people is essential, where love is the focal point. In marriage, one gives oneself off to another in a spirit of lifelong commitment. That is where Jesus beautifully explains the issue of divorce. That marriage has been between a man and a woman, where selfishness does not exist as love prevails.
It is only when one is driven by greed and close-mindedness that we tend to justify ourselves at the cost of condemning the other.
How do I maintain relationships in my life? By putting others' needs ahead of my own. It is not so much about what I can gain, it is about what I can offer and contribute to the other. There are several aspects of our lives to foster a stronger relationship.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
