Kingdom-wise Peter
September 1, Thursday,22nd Week in Ordinary Time
Daily readings:1Corinthians 3:18-23 & Luke 5:1-11
“Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch”.
Simon Peter was a fool in the worldly sense that Paul speaks about today. Having experienced the
extraordinary catch of the fish resulting from the genius of Jesus, world-wise fishermen should have
immediately sensed a grand business opportunity. Wouldn’t it be great to have Jesu join him, and then
they could go fishing daily?
Jesus would use his sixth sense and locate where the fish were, and boom! They would have a great catch, big money and grow rich together! So, Peter should have invited Jesus for a cup of tea and asked Him to join his company, proposing profit sharing.
But Peter doesn’t do any of that; the only thing he can do is to be utterly conscious of his unworthiness
before the holiness of Jesus. Fall to his knees and beg Jesus to leave him, a sinful man. World-wise, a
fool. But Kingdom-wise, he belonged. No wonder, Jesus simply wouldn’t let go of him.
Do I recognize then that God was busily at work through me?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
