Jesus’ Compassion and Authority

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas
    Voiced by: Arlene Donarber

July 4, Thursday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Amos 7:10-17; Matthew 9:1-8

The compassion and authority of Jesus are on full display in today's story. A crowd gathers around Jesus, seeking healing, and among them is a paralyzed man, unable to move or walk.

His friends bring him to Jesus, hoping for a miracle. Instead of simply healing him, Jesus does something unexpected: He tells the paralyzed man, "Your sins are forgiven."

The Pharisees are outraged by this statement, as they believe that only God has the power to forgive sins. But Jesus, undeterred by their criticism, asserts His authority. He knows He has the power to forgive sins, a bold declaration that He is God incarnate.

This event reveals that Jesus is not merely a human with special powers but God Himself came to earth to save humanity.
It also reminds us that Jesus is not just a healer of physical ailments but also a Savior who can forgive our sins and restore our relationship with God.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us approach Jesus with faith and trust, knowing that He has the power to forgive our sins and heal our bodies.

Let us ask God for the grace to be agents of forgiveness and reconciliation in the world. Amen.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
