Heart of Faith
August 27, Tuesday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Monica
Daily Readings: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3A, 14-17; Matthew 23:23-26
Jesus criticizes the Pharisees and scribes for meticulously tithing even the smallest herbs like mint, dill, and cumin while neglecting the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy, and faithfulness.
He emphasizes that while these practices are good, they should not overshadow the essential core of God’s commandments.
Jesus’ critique of duality in religious practice resonates today. We can easily become focused on outward displays of piety, neglecting the inner transformation true faith requires.
Jesus calls for a holistic faith that balances attention to detail with a commitment to righteous living. Genuine spirituality is not about mere acts of obedience but about embodying the principles God values—justice, mercy, and faithfulness—in our relationships with Him and others.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Are there areas where I focus on appearances at the expense of inner authenticity? Am I engaging in acts of service that reflect the heart of God?
Let us seek God’s grace to prioritize Kingdom values wholeheartedly in our lives. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
