The Greatest Gift One Can Receive

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas

July 15, Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Daily Readings:Isaiah 1:10-17; Matthew 10:34-11:1

Today’s gospel text concludes the second sermon in the Gospel of Matthew and the great commission of the Apostles.

Jesus speaks to his disciples about the family divisions that will arise due to his ministry. He says, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have come to bring a sword” (Matthew 10:34).

This is a stark contrast to what we might expect from a Messiah, who would typically bring peace and unity.

The radical call to discipleship requires a complete transformation of one’s life and priorities. Seeking God’s kingdom must take precedence over family, relationships, personal desires, and even life itself.

Those who accept the message and the messenger will be rewarded. Knowing Jesus and receiving salvation is the greatest gift one can ever receive.

Call to Action for Catholic Living:  Reflecting on when and how we came to know Christ is crucial. It calls us to re-examine our priorities and our relationship with Jesus.

Following Him is not just about attending church or performing good deeds, but about surrendering our lives to Him and allowing Him to transform us from the inside out.

Our faith journey will not be easy; it will be filled with challenges and conflicts. But we must always remember that we are walking with Him. Amen

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
