God chose us in our humility and limitations
July 19, Wednesday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Exodus 3: 1-6, 9-12, Ps 102: 1-2, 3-4, 6-7, Matthew 11:25-27
Today’s first reading gives us the first part of Moses’ call. God calls Moses to lead his people from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. And Moses responds pretty much the same way that we’d respond if God called us to such an intimidating task. Moses immediately begins asking questions and making excuses. People won’t believe him. He’s not worthy. He’s not a good speaker. God should pick someone else. Of course, God rejects each of Moses’ excuses and promises to give him all the help and grace he needs to complete the task.
Jesus’ words in the Gospel help us to understand God’s call – to Moses and to us – a bit more clearly. God doesn’t call us because we are so talented and wonderful, but because he is. God chose us in our humility and limitations and gives us the grace we need to embrace his will. Thanks be to God.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
