Genuine Faith

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas
    Voiced by: Shirly Benedictos

August 26, Monday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:  2 Thessalonians 1:1-5, 11-12; Matthew 23:13-22

Jesus confronts the religious leaders of His time, particularly the Pharisees and scribes, with a series of woes, condemning their hypocrisy and obsession with outward appearances.

He accuses them of shutting the door to the Kingdom of Heaven, misleading others with their misguided zeal while ignoring their own flaws. Their concern for reputation and ritual over genuine faith and integrity is sharply criticized.

Jesus’ words highlight the true nature of the Kingdom of Heaven, where the heart’s posture matters more than external actions. True worship stems from an internal transformation, leading to love, humility, and service.

The call to authenticity is clear. Are we more concerned with how others perceive us than with our relationship with God? Are we leading others toward genuine faith, or simply maintaining appearances? As believers, we are urged to embody the values of the Kingdom in our daily lives—welcoming the marginalized, seeking justice, and living with grace.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: Today’s Gospel is both a critique and a call to deeper discipleship. It invites us to introspect and strive for authenticity in our faith, prioritizing the heart of the Gospel over rigid traditions, and living in a way that reflects the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
