Forgiveness is the Key to Heaven
June 15, Thursday of the 10th week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:2 Corinthians 3:15-4:1,3-6; Gospel: Matthew.5:20-26
Make yourself better than the scribes and Pharisees! Jesus challenges us to live a more humble life than the Pharisees and scribes. Jesus challenges us to look at our lives at the core of who we are. We have to fight evil at its roots before it rises to the surface as evil. Before we make sacrifices or the authorities impose peace from the outside, we must overcome the feeling of anger that precedes killing. We must also be able to arrange peace in our hearts and make peace with our neighbors.
Today's gospel talks about the beauty of living side by side. Faith is all about living together and interconnecting with others. We cannot live alone, for others have a part in our salvation. If we hurt others, that hurt will come back to us.
Pope Francis constantly talks about a merciful heart. To forgive is to recognize the hurt or harm done and to try to let the hurt go, or at least want to let it go. He knows jealousy and hatred have ruined our world today, and we only need a compassionate heart.
How is it possible? Love conquers hatred. It helps us go beyond our hurt. This is why Jesus takes the ‘new commandment’ to love one another and even makes it ‘reconciled with the other.’
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
