Faithful Stewardship
August 31, Saturday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; Matthew 25:14-30
Today’s Gospel presents the parable of the talents. A master entrusts his property to his servants before leaving on a journey, giving one five talents, another two, and the third just one.
The first two servants invest their talents wisely, doubling their master’s wealth, while the third servant, out of fear, buries his talent. Upon his return, the master praises the first two for their diligence and condemns the third for his inaction.
What does this parable teach us? It speaks to the importance of stewardship. Each of us has been given unique gifts, talents, and opportunities.
Whether our gifts are great or small, we are called to use them for God’s glory and the betterment of our communities. Our talents are not merely possessions but blessings to be invested in the world.
How do we handle fear and risk? Fear of failure, judgment, or inadequacy can prevent us from stepping out of faith. Yet, Jesus teaches that by taking risks for God, we find true joy and purpose.
The servants who invested their talents not only increased their master’s wealth but also experienced the joy of faithful stewardship.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us pray for the courage to step out in faith and use our gifts boldly, so that one day we may hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
