Faithful Servants
June 29, Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
Daily Readings: Acts 12:1-11; 2 Tm 4:6-8, 17-18; Mt 16:13-19
Today, the Church honors the significant contributions of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, to the early Christian community.
The first reading recounts Peter's imprisonment and miraculous release by an angel, leading him to declare, “Now I know truly that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the people of the Jews were expecting.”
The second reading tells of Paul’s strength from the Lord, enabling him to complete the gospel proclamation to the Gentiles. Paul was saved from the lion’s mouth and firmly believed the Lord would rescue him from every evil threat and bring him safely to His heavenly kingdom.
In today's gospel, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Peter answered, "You are Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus responded, "You are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."
As we celebrate Saints Peter and Paul, we reflect on their dedication and martyrdom in Rome during Nero’s reign in the mid-to-late 60s.
Through their preaching, ministry, and martyrdom, Saints Peter and Paul helped to establish Christ's Church.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Who do you say the Son of Man is?
Lord Jesus, help us to be faithful servants, just like Peter and Paul. Amen!
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
