Faithful Servant
May 3, Feast of Saints Philip and James, Apostles
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; John 14:6-14
Today, the church is celebrating the feast of St. James and Philip, the Apostles. Philip and James and John were both apostles, and both served Christ faithfully during the very early days of the Church.
Both readings mentioned the feast's honorary. The first reading included a mention of the honoraries. James the Apostle is considered one of the most fortunate individuals to have witnessed and experienced resurrected Jesus. However, the gospel reading mentioned Philip's name. He is a spokesperson who questions Jesus. He boldly challenges Jesus to reveal the truth.
Father, as Jesus told them, He is the way, the Truth, and the life; whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Both apostles are faithful servants of Jesus. They played a significant role in promoting the message. Gospel and sustained Jesus throughout his ministry.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us assess ourselves—how faithful are we to serve God? Are we like James and Philip, who gave up everything and followed Jesus? Were we willing to sacrifice our lives for the church's mission?
Lord, help us to rekindle our hearts to serve you faithfully. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
