Embracing the Compassionate Heart of Jesus
July 9, Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong, priest, and companions, martyrs
Daily Readings: Hosea 8:4-7, 11-13; Matthew 9:32-38
Upon reading the Gospel passage, we are reminded of the compassionate heart of Jesus. His proclamation of the kingdom of God, casting out demons, healing the sick, and showing compassion for the people all reveal the profound love of God for humanity. The fulfillment of Jesus's mission and the people's witness to His compassion demonstrate the manifesto of God's love.
Jesus possesses authority over demons and exhibits deep compassion for the people. In our times, we too must confront both personal and social demons. Personal demons such as ego, jealousy, unforgiveness, and pride, and social demons like corruption, social injustice, war, discrimination, and poverty, must be eradicated for the healing of our world.
God is always compassionate and merciful, yet He is displeased with war and the loss of innocent lives. He is close to us, inviting us to cast out our personal and social demons. Are we ready to accept His invitation?
Call to Action for Catholic Living: As citizens of the kingdom, let us embody and live by the virtues of the Gospel, following the example set by Jesus. Created in the image and likeness of God, we are called to show compassion to our neighbors.
Let us ask for God's grace to illuminate and radiate our hearts and minds. May the love of God and the compassionate heart of Jesus create a ripple effect in society through our lives. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
