Crab Mentality
June 1, Memorial of Saint Justin, Martyr
Daily Readings: Jude 17, 20b-25; Mark 11:27-33
The first reading speaks about the characteristics that God wants us to have. God encouraged us to continue building ourselves up in our most sacred faith and to pray in the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is encouraged that we keep ourselves in the love of God while we wait for our Lord Jesus Christ, in his mercy, to give us eternal life. We should extend mercy to those who harbor doubts.
The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders questioned Jesus in today's Gospel.
They asked him, “What right do you have to do these things? Who gave you this right?” But Jesus was wise enough to counteract by throwing a question at them, and in the end, they did not get any answer from Him.
An inferior person will always look for a way to question or put down people they consider better than them. The high priest's interrogation of Jesus indicates that they perceive him as a potential threat.
In our lives, if people see you as a threat to them, they will dislike you at once. Many of us tend to feel jealous of others' achievements. Some people actively work to undermine the achievements of others. This is what we call crab mentality.
Crab mentality is defined as an individual's tendency to pull down people around them who they believe are better than them in any aspect.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us avoid the culture of negativity by celebrating the accomplishments of others.
Lord, help us to be happy with the achievements of others. AMEN.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
