Compassion and Miracles

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas

August 5, Monday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:  Jeremiah 28:1-17; Matthew 14:13-21

After John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod, Jesus was deeply grieved. Seeking solitude, He withdrew to a deserted place, but the people followed Him. Filled with compassion, He decided to feed them.

When the disciples suggested sending the people away for food, Jesus insisted on feeding them Himself. Despite their doubts, Jesus took what they had, blessed it, and gave thanks. In a miraculous event, He multiplied the food, ensuring there was more than enough for everyone.

This miracle teaches us to trust in God’s providence, even in impossible challenges. Jesus didn’t solve the problem alone; He looked to God for guidance. Just as God created the world out of nothing, Jesus fed over five thousand people with five loaves and two fish.

Hospitality builds connections and strengthens relationships through kindness, generosity, and warmth. In His society, where hospitality was highly valued, Jesus both received and offered it.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: As Christians, we are called to embody compassion and hospitality. Let us trust in God’s providence, even when things seem impossible.

May we ask God for the grace to transform our doubt into absolute trust, living our lives as true children of God. Amen.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
