Commitment to Marriage
May 24, 2024 Friday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: James 5:9-12; Mark 10:1-12
The first reading speaks of the compassion, kindness, and mercy of God. The Gospel frequently finds its application in marriage. As Jesus stated, ever since the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.
For this reason, a man will separate from his father and mother and unite with his wife, becoming one flesh. As a result, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, no human being must separate what God has joined together."
Marriage is one of the seven sacraments that is considered sacred. Deciding to marry a partner represents a lifetime commitment. This commitment extends both to the individual and to God. The essence of the vows of promise before God means committing oneself to the person whom you have chosen to be your life partner and committing to God to take care of the person for better or worse, in sickness and in health.
Commitment in marriage is essential for the success of any relationship. A strong foundation of love should underpin a marriage, building trust and mutual respect.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: The couple should be open to communication, forgiveness, sacrifice, and compromise. It also requires making time for each other and keeping the spark alive in the relationship. Therefore, it is important to always put God at the center of marriage life when couples build a family.
Lord Jesus, may you bless all married couples as they build their families. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
