Coherence of words and actions gives authority
September 5, Tuesday of the 22nd Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Thessalonians 5:1–6, 9–11; Gospel Luke 4:31–37
"Be quiet! Come out of him. Jesus’ order to the unclean spirit was done. And the question, "What is there about his words?" came out of the witnessing. If the people in the time of Jesus could not clearly define it, in our time it is clearly defined that Jesus is a Word of God, ‘Dabar’ which is not only a word disconnected from action, but a word that is action.
Through him, everything was created, as we profess in the credo. Our word is different from the one of Jesus simply because Jesus is Himself His Word, the Word of God, which is not the case for human words. Hence, there are lies, fakeness, untruth, hypocrisy, flattery, slander, gossip, and likewise in our words, which make them weak, doubtful, not authoritative on their own, and so dark.
However, Saint Paul is reminding us about our true identity. "For all of you are children of the light, he says. And Jesus, the Word of God, is the Light of life.
May we give him space in our hearts so that, from His light, our mouths will speak with sincerity and coherence, hence with authority, at every moment and wherever they will be heard?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
