A Call to Participate in His Mission
September 20, 2024 Friday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Priest, and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20; Luke 8:1-3
Jesus actively proclaims the Good News of the Kingdom of God. He is on a mission, traveling from town to town, gathering followers, and healing the sick. Today’s gospel presents women playing a vital role in supporting Jesus and His ministry.
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and many others are named, demonstrating that women were integral to the early Christian community. This acknowledgment is revolutionary, particularly within the context of the time, when women often had a subordinate status in society. Jesus elevates their place, granting them visibility and honour.
Jesus welcomes individuals from all walks of life: men, women, rich, poor, sinners, and saints. Each one of us is called to be a disciple, to support the Church, and to proclaim the Gospel. We might not travel from town-to-town preaching, but we can support the Church through our gifts, our time, and our resources. How are we using what we have to serve God’s mission in our communities? Perhaps it is through hospitality, charity, or simply sharing the message of God’s love with those around us.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us strive to acknowledge and uplift the voices of those who have felt marginalized, just as Jesus did. May we be inspired by the commitment and bravery of the women who accompanied Jesus in His ministry. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
