A Call to Joyful Renewal in Christ
September 6, 2024 Friday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5; Luke 5:33-39
In a dialogue between Jesus and the Pharisees, they question why His disciples do not fast as tradition dictates.
Jesus responds with a wedding image, asking, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them?” His message is clear: fasting is a powerful spiritual practice, but in the presence of Christ, joy takes precedence. His arrival signifies the dawn of a new covenant and a relationship with God marked by celebration.
Jesus further illustrates this shift with metaphors of old and new—patching old garments with new cloth and placing new wine into old wineskins.
These images remind us that the newness Christ brings cannot be simply patched onto old ways of thinking. True discipleship requires a deep renewal of heart and mind.
Are we holding onto traditions and mindsets that prevent us from experiencing His radical love and grace? Are we open to the new life He offers?
Call to Action for Catholic Living: Let us carry the joy of Christ within us. By embracing the newness He brings, we find our lives filled with abundant purpose and joy.
May we have the courage to let go of the old and allow the Spirit to guide us in celebrating Christ’s presence in our lives. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
