Bread of Life
April 18, Thursday of the Third Week of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 8:26-40; John 6:44-51
Philip, filled and guided by the Holy Spirit, continues proclaiming God's word. An angel instructed him to travel to various locations. In particular, the Spirit led him to a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, of great authority under Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians.
In the Gospel today, Jesus continues to educate the people that he is the bread of life, the living bread that came from heaven. “ If any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.”
Bread does not pertain to a portion of food to satisfy hunger and survive. But it pertains to Jesus being the bread of life who gave himself in the flesh for the world's salvation.
If we believe in Him and acknowledge him as our Lord and Savior, we will have everlasting life. This everlasting life is to be with him in paradise. In other words, man does not live by bread alone but on the words of God, on the provision of God in His word. We should embrace and live out the word of God in our daily lives.
Lord, help us to recognize that Jesus is the true bread of our lives. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
