Singaporean church reminds parishioners to teach faith to others
The Church of St. Bernadette in Singapore has reminded its parishioners to share and teach Christian faith with others.
During the 5.30 pm Mass on January 14, 2024, the parish commissioned and recommissioned the various catechists in their mission to pass down the faith to young children, teenagers, and adults in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program.
A person (18 years of age and older) who wishes to be introduced into the Catholic Church by Christian baptism and to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation can enroll in the yearlong RCIA program. The second quarter of the year is when it normally starts.
“We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide and inspire them in their task to pass on the light of Christ to all,” said Father Aloysius Ong, a priest of the Church of St. Bernadette.
Passing on the faith is not just the responsibility of catechists but that of every baptized Catholic, he added.
“We are all empowered to share our faith with our children, family members, and those around us—both by word and by our actions,” said Ong.
On April 13, 2024, the Church of St. Bernadette will celebrate its 65th anniversary.
Singapore has a population of about 5.7 million people and is home to people of many religions and ethnicities. Most Chinese people are Buddhist, while most Malaysians are Muslim.
About 15% of people are Christians. There are about 360,000 Catholics in 32 churches in the Archdiocese of Singapore, which covers the city-state.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
