Pope Francis plans to visit India next year
Pope Francis has said on Sunday that he is planning to visit India 2024. He was speaking to journalists about his future journey plans on his flight back to Rome from South Sudan.
Outlining his upcoming travel schedule during the flight, Pope confirmed that he would be in Lisbon, Portugal for World Youth Day the first week of August and would participate in a September 23 meeting of Mediterranean bishops in Marseille, France.
The Pope also indicated the “possibility” that he would fly from Marseille to Mongolia, according to AP News.
Pope Francis also hinted that he would visit India in 2024.
Pope Francis received an official invitation to visit India from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October, 2021, when he visited the Vatican.
“Had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis. I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India,” the prime minister tweeted following the visit. Pictures of the meeting were also shared by Modi on social media.
Pope John Paul II was the last Pope to visit India.
