National summit on social media kicks off in the Philippines
The Archdiocese of Cebu in the Philippines hosts a two-day national summit on social media that brings together Catholic communicators from different dioceses in the country.
The Catholic Social Media Summit (CSMS) started on December 2 with the aim of empowering the faithful to utilize social media as an effective tool for evangelization in an ever-growing digital world.
During the event's opening Mass, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said that Catholic communicators must strive to follow Christ and be His reflection.
"Our words must imitate the Divine Word," he said.
The archbishop also emphasized the importance of communicating truthfully in four ways: in being, in thinking, in conduct, and in words.
Furthermore, Archbishop Palma said that effective communication requires not just good speaking but also active listening.
"Only one who knows silence... will experience the friuitfulness of our actions as communicators," he said.
Now in its 12th year, CSMS is being held at the Ateneo de Cebu in Mandaue City, with more than 400 attendees physically present and more attending virtually through Zoom.
This is a collaboration between media organization Areopagus Communications and YouthPinoy, a group of young Filipinos harnessing the power of social media and various digital channels to spread the Good News.
Both organizations are under the auspices of the Media Office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
This is the first time in three years that CSMS has held a face-to-face summit, with its 2020–2022 iterations held online.- Luke Goday
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
