Salesians elect new Rector Major: Father Fabio Attard

On March 25, the Society of St. Francis de Sales elected Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB, as its new Rector Major during its ongoing 29th General Chapter in Turin, Italy.
Attard is the 11th successor of St. John Bosco, the founder of Salesians. He will head the Salesian Congregation and continue its service to youth, the poor, and manualized peoples and communities in 136 countries and nations around the globe.
The historic Mother House of Valdocco in Turin hosted and elected the 220 provincials and delegates. They chose Attard after a deep discernment.
Attard will spearhead the congregation that has 3,750 members who work in 92 provinces across five continents.
At the time of election, Attard is a member of the General Council of the Salesians.
In 2018, Pope Francis appointed Attard as a consultor of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life, responsible for Youth Ministry.
Don Bosco, an Italian Catholic priest, educator, and writer, founded the Society of St. Francis de Sales in 1859 in Italy.
The members of the Salesians of Don Bosco work in several countries in Asia.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
