Pope grants Pontifical Coronation to 422-year old image of Mary in Philippines
Pope Francis granted the Pontifical Coronation of the 422-year-old miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio of Boljoon, Cebu, Philippines.
The Coronation Rites are set on April 23, 2022, at 4 in the afternoon as part of the closing ceremonies of Cebu’s year-long celebrations of the Quincentennial (500 years) of Christianity in the Philippines.
On behalf of the Holy Father, Archbishop Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, will grace the Coronation as the main celebrant. He will also crown the image on the pope’s behalf.
The Patrocinio de Maria of Boljoon is the third Marian Image in the Archdiocese to be granted the honor of a Pontifical Coronation.
The two others are Nuestra Señora de la Regla venerated at her National Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City and Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, venerated at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Cebu City.
