Pope Francis lauds the SIGNIS theme of “Peace in the Digital World”
In his message for SIGNIS World Congress 2022, Pope Francis lauded SIGNIS’ choice of the theme 'Peace in the Digital World' as very timely and relevant.
He expresses deep concern that the misuse of digital media, especially social media, can lead to serious ethical issues.
The pope reminded, “Sometimes and in some places, media sites have become places of toxicity, hate speech, and fake news.”
A wise and discerning judgment of communicators can make the digital media revolution a powerful means of promoting communion and dialogue and enhancing the quality of human relationships.
The pope encouraged SIGNIS (World Catholic Communication Association) "to play an important role through media education, networking Catholic media, and countering lies and misinformation."
“Communication is not just a profession but a service to dialogue and understanding between individuals and larger communities in pursuit of a serene and peaceful coexistence,” he added.
SIGNIS World Congress 2022 is planned to be held at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, from August 16 to 19, on the Metaverse platform.
An exhibition introducing the status of Catholicism in many countries, Catholic films, Catholic media, and a pilgrimage to Korea will also be held in the virtual world of Metaverse.
The World Congresses are held every four years.
SIGNIS is a Vatican-accredited organization of Catholic journalists and communicators. SIGNIS world headquarters is located in Brussels, Belgium, and the Secretariat is in Rome, Italy.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
