Philippines: Bishop of Pagadian dies at 57

The bishop of Pagadian, Ronald Ignacio (Bong) Lunas

Ronald Ignacio (Bong) Lunas, the bishop of Pagadian, the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, died on January 2 at the age of 57.

“With great sadness in my heart and soul, I wish to confirm to all that our dear Bishop Ronald Bong Lunas has joined the Father in heaven this morning,” said Bishop Guillermo D. Afable of Digos.

“May we all together, with his family and the Clergy, Religious, and Lay faithful of the Diocese of Digos, and also with the Clergy, Religious, and Lay faithful of the Diocese of Pagadian, commend Bishop Bong to the loving embrace of the Blessed Trinity through the intercession of our Mother, Mary Mediatrix of all Grace,” added Abable.

Other details of the death and funeral service arrangements of the late Bishop Lunas are still awaited.

Lunas, who hails from Digos, was appointed bishop of Pagadian on November 22, 2018.

He was born in Bala, Magsaysay, Diocese of Digos, on November 27, 1966.

He was appointed bishop on April 7, 1992. He was ordained bishop of Pagadian Mary Mediatrix of All Grace Cathedral, Digos City, on February 11, 2019, and was installed as a bishop on March 25, 2019. He was a priest for 31.73 years and a bishop for 4.89 years.
