Malaysian bishops’ Christmas message: ‘Collaborate for the common good’
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia urged the faithful to ‘collaborate for the common good’ of the country this Christmas season.
In a statement, the conference’s president Archbishop Simon Poh encouraged everyone to “reject extremism and fundamentalism.”
He also called on all Malaysians to “seek dialogue, engage with one another, and listen with open hearts.”
“The birth of the Christ Child at Christmas ushers in the promise of Hope and Life,” said the prelate.
Archbishop Poh also emphasized the importance of the coming year in the Catholic Church, which is a Jubilee Year. Pope Francis has chosen the theme “Pilgrims of Hope” this 2025.
In line with this, he invited the faithful to visit the designated pilgrim churches this Jubilee Year. In Malaysia, this distinction was given to 35 churches across the country’s nine dioceses.
The pilgrim churches will be “At Christmas, Emmanuel, our God, comes into the world to dwell among us, bringing joy, peace, and hope,” he said.
“As we enter the 2025 Jubilee Year, we are called to be Pilgrims of Hope. Through the open doors of our churches, we are sent forth to share God’s gift of mercy and hope with the world,” he further said.
Moreover, the archbishop reminded everyone to spend time and resources this Christmas season on serving the poor and needy, as well as victims of natural disasters, floods, or fires.
He also invited families to host “open houses” for Christmas and other important festivals.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
