The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei (CBCMSB) has decided to continue using the current translation of the Jerusalem Bible for the Lectionary.
The decision was made during the conference’s assembly in July.
The bishops said that the faithful within the region are more familiar with the language of the Jerusalem translation of the Bible and have fostered a deep connection with it.
Therefore, the Bishops' Conference of England, Wales, and Scotland has decided that they will not introduce the English Standard Version Catholic Edition (ESVCE) Lectionary.
The CBCMSB also said that the New Zealand and Australian Conferences of Bishops are in the process of drafting a new Lectionary based on the New Jerusalem Bible translation.
Until this version is completed, the CBCMSB calls on every parish in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei to wait for the NZ-Australia translation instead of using the ESVCE lectionary.
In line with this decision, the publisher, Catholic Truth Society, has ceased reprinting the current lectionaries.
Meanwhile, the CBCMSB has entrusted the Episcopal Regional Liturgy Commission (ERLC) to work on obtaining the copyright to print them locally.- Luke Godoy
