Japan: Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Tokyo dies at 84

Paul Kazuhiro Mori, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Tokyo, Japan, passed away at Tokyo Shin Hospital (Takeda Prefecture) on September 2. 

"Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Tokyo, Bishop Paul Kazuhiro Mori, has passed away early this morning on September 2 at the age of 84," the Divine Word Archbishop Tarcisio Isao Kikuchi of Tokyo wrote on Facebook.

"May he rest in Peace of the merciful Father," he continued. 

The funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral, Tokyo, on September 5, presided over by Archbishop Kikuchi.

Mori was born on December 10, 1938, in Kobe City. On March 25, 1962, he professed to be a member of the Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD).

He was ordained a priest on March 11, 1967, in Rome.

From August 1977 to March 1981, he served at Sekiguchi Church, and from April 1981 to January 1985, he was a parish priest at Sekiguchi Church. In 1977, he was incardinated as a priest of Tokyo.

He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Tokyo and Titular Bishop of Fata on December 3, 1984.

On May 10, 2000, he resigned from his episcopal responsibilities.

From November 1985 to June 2021, he was the vice chairman of the Shinsei Association.

Bishop Mori is remembered for his indomitable pastoral zeal and commitment to serving the Archdiocese of Tokyo.
