India's Central Province SVD celebrates Golden Jubilee with historic inaugurations

The India Central Province (INC) of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) marked its Golden Jubilee as a province (1975-2025) with a grand celebration at Seva Sadan, the provincial headquarters, on February 27.
The event also included the inauguration of the Sesquicentennial Grotto and the Sesquicentennial Jubilee Hall.
The ceremony was graced by Fr. Xavier T. SVD, Vice-Superior General of the Society of the Divine Word, alongside all PRM Superiors of the Indo-Bangla Subzone.
Fr. Xavier inaugurated the Sesquicentennial Jubilee Hall in the presence of Fr. Paulraj SVD, Provincial Superior of INC, Archbishop Durai Raj SVD, Archbishop Leo Cornelio SVD, Bishop Chacko Thottumarickal SVD, PRM Superiors, INC confreres, and SSpS sisters.
Archbishop Durai Raj of Bhopal blessed the hall, making it available for the use of INC confreres.
Fr. Paulraj extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries with a traditional shawl and garland, followed by a video presentation by Fr. Anthony Swamy SVD, Communication Coordinator, showcasing INC’s journey from 1932 to 2025.
During his address, Fr. Xavier emphasized three key pillars: Membership, Mission, and Model.
He highlighted the significance of membership in the society, the core mission of the SVDs as they commemorate 150 years, and the inspiring lives of St. Arnold Janssen, St. Joseph Freinademetz, and Pope Francis.
A major highlight of the event was the release of the book Martyr of Love: The Life of St. Freinademetz, authored by Fr. Clarence SVD. The author provided insights into the book’s significance for the SVD mission.
Additionally, Fr. Xavier honored the documentary team behind Witnessing to the Light—Indo-Bangla Subzone, recognizing Fr. Anthony Swamy, Fr. Clarence, and Fr. Dixson Lawrence D’Souza for their efforts.
In celebration of 150 years of the SVDs, a Sesquicentennial Grotto was constructed and blessed by Archbishop Emeritus Leo Cornelio SVD. Fr. Xavier inaugurated the grotto, marking a historic milestone for the province.
The events concluded with a Holy Eucharistic celebration, presided over by newly ordained priest Fr. Aanil Tandi SVD. Fr. Xavier delivered the homily, offering profound reflections on the significance of the milestone.
Fr. Paulraj, Provincial Superior of INC, expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and PRM Superiors for their presence and contributions, marking this historic occasion as a testament to the commitment of the India Central Province to faith, mission, and service.
