India: Xavier University, Patna, is inaugurated
Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar inaugurated Xavier University Patna on March 29, 2025.
"We have finally realized the dream of establishing Xavier University, Patna," said a Jesuit.
It is a momentous achievement of the Patna Jesuits, who have for decades been the torchbearers of quality education in Bihar State, in the eastern part of India.
Heartfelt gratitude to all those who worked and prayed to make this dream a reality.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Sunil Kumar, the Education Minister of Bihar, and Dr. S. Siddhartha, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the development of higher education in the state. The university aims to provide students with world-class educational opportunities and contribute to the intellectual and socio-economic growth of the region.
The Annual Day Celebrations of St. Xavier's College of Management and Technology, featuring an inspiring and vibrant cultural program, followed the event.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Education Minister Sunil Kumar and the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, Dr. S. Siddhartha, graced the inauguration ceremony of Xavier University before joining the Annual Day celebrations at Kalaam Hall.
The celebrations brought together the college's management, faculty, students, parents, guests, and dignitaries for an evening of cultural performances and academic reflections.
The event began with the college anthem, which was followed by an energetic and graceful prayer dance performed by the students of the Xavier Dance Club, setting the tone for the festivities.
The audience then saw a multimedia presentation of the college's Annual Report for the academic year 2024–2025. This report showed the college's important events and accomplishments.
In line with the evening's theme, "Together Towards Innovation and Excellence," the Dhwani Club students entertained the crowd with a beautiful mix of songs that showed how creative and united the St. Xavier's community is.
The theme continued with a moving play called "Ek Naya Savera," which was written by Dr. Anurag Ambastha and performed by the Xavier Theatre Club students. It beautifully showed the path of innovation and excellence, which is something the college still believes in.
As part of the Annual Day celebrations, the college also recognized the achievements of students across various fields.
India has more than 25 Jesuit colleges and three universities. These include colleges for the arts, sciences, commerce, education, engineering, management, and more, as well as technical institutes and research centers.

The Jesuits have a long history of education in India, with St. Francis Xavier arriving in Goa (western India) in 1542.
They established schools and colleges to spread education and promote their mission.
Many Jesuit institutions are minority institutions, under the provisions of the Indian Constitution, and aim to promote the community they are associated with.
