In a landmark move to bridge the digital divide among church communities in Northeast India, the Northeast Social Communication (NESCOM) Commission has officially launched the website of the Diocese of Itanagar: www.dioceseofitanagar.com on April 9.

The launch marks a significant step forward in NESCOM’s media campaign to enhance digital communication across the region’s 15 dioceses—many of which currently lack functional and modern online platforms.

The initiative is spearheaded by NESCOM Chairman Bishop Albert Hemrom and Secretary Fr. Kampan Chinnam, under the aegis of the Northeast India Regional Bishops' Council (NEIRBC).

This milestone was made possible through the generous support of Franciscan Solutions, an educational technology company known for its commitment to charitable causes.

Their involvement followed a bishops' meeting in Bongaigaon, where church leaders identified the urgent need to strengthen the church's digital presence.

In response, Franciscan Solutions offered to design and host the website at no cost—overcoming a major financial barrier and enabling the project to move forward.

The launch ceremony, held in Itanagar, gathered over 100 participants, including priests, religious sisters and brothers, and lay leaders.

The event was presided over by Bishop Benny Varghese Edathattel of Itanagar, alongside Bishop Emeritus Dr. John Thomas Kattrukudiyil and Bishop Gabriel Kujur.

In his address, Bishop Benny expressed deep gratitude for the partnership, describing it as “divine providence” amidst financial and technical challenges. He noted that the high service costs from mainstream providers had long stalled such initiatives and thanked Franciscan Solutions for their generosity and commitment.

As part of the event, Mr. Sumit Dass, a representative of Franciscan Solutions, introduced Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions tailored for Catholic educational institutions.

These tools aim to streamline school administration and promote academic excellence, aligning with the broader mission of the Church in the region.

The Diocese of Itanagar, established in 2005, currently comprises over 50 parishes and mission centers. Under the leadership of Bishop Edathattel, the diocese continues to grow and evolve—embracing digital tools to strengthen its evangelization and pastoral outreach.

With the successful launch of this website, NESCOM is poised to support other dioceses across Northeast India in developing their digital platforms, fostering greater connectivity, visibility, and unity in the region.

This initiative strengthens the Church's communication infrastructure and empowers the faithful to engage with the mission more dynamically in today’s digital era.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
