India: Jubilee celebration of the Word of God in Archdiocese of Goa and Daman
The Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, western India, celebrated the Jubilee of the Word of God on January 26, 2025.
The event occurred at St. Thomas Church, Aldona, marking the Sunday dedicated to the Word of God.
Father Henry Falcão, Episcopal Vicar for the North Zone, led the Eucharistic celebration alongside several concelebrants, including Fathers Mariano D'Costa, Tomas Lobo, Mario Leitao, Caitano D'Souza, Gualberto D'Souza, Angelo Simoes, and Deacon Jason Travaso.
In his homily on the theme "I hope in your Word," Father Falcão urged the faithful to anchor their lives in the Word of God.
He emphasized the transformative power of God’s Word.
He said, "If we want to know the glory of God, experience His love, and be guided by His hand, we need to build our life on the Word of God.”
The priest reminded attendees that the Word of God is for everyone, renewing and healing those who embrace it.
"The Word of God is living. It has the power to give life; so it should be living in our lives," he added, urging the faithful to allow it to transform their lives.
Father Falcão also highlighted the significance of the Bible course conducted by the deanery, noting its role in deepening understanding of the connection between the Old and New Testaments, with Jesus as the fulfillment.
Testimonials from participants Lavina Cardozo and Nelson Fernandes further emphasized the impact of the course.
Father Tomas Lobo, parish priest of St. Thomas Church, Aldona, welcomed attendees and spoke on the event's significance.
The rite of the enthronement of the Bible was done before the Eucharistic celebration, followed by a brief program featuring a prayer dance, devotional songs by catechists and students, and a Mando performance.
As many as 134 participants from the Aldona deanery received diplomas for completing the course, and collaborators involved in the Bible course received felicitations.
During Bible Week, the Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate focused on activities under the theme "Hopeful Horizons," including daily reflections on Bible verses, explanations of Biblical Symbols of Hope, an online Bible Quiz, and visits to the sick by Biblical animators, who will conduct prayer services for families.
Father Mariano D'Costa, director of the Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate, concluded the event by expressing gratitude to everyone involved.
