India: Beacon Awards 2025 honors excellence in faith, education and leadership

The Beacon Awards 2025 was held on February 22 in Chennai, south India, recognizing outstanding contributions to faith formation and education.
The Office for Education of the Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore organized the Beacon Awards 2025 in collaboration with the Commission for Catechetics. The event honored 347 students, teachers, and schools for their outstanding commitment to academic excellence and holistic faith development.
As many as 221 students from 56 schools received awards at the Beacon Awards 2025 for their excellence in catechism and value education.
Four teachers were honored with the Best Teacher Award for their dedicated service and commitment to education.
Eighty altar servers and catechism students were recognized for their dedication, including 36 Best Outgoing Altar Servers and 44 Best Outgoing Catechism Students.
Thirty-six Sunday catechism teachers were honored for their dedicated service and commitment to faith formation.
Six CMES schools were honored with the Beacon of Success Award for achieving a 100% pass rate.
Fourteen newly certified catechism teachers were recognized for completing accredited training.
Archbishop George Antonysamy, Vicar General and three Episcopal Vicars graced the event.
Special honorees included T. Christuraj, IAS (Tiruppur), the first Catholic IAS officer from a CMES school, and Father Santhosh Jude (Aeronautical Engineering, IIT). Other notable achievers included national and state-level academic and sports champions.
Outstanding Achievers Honored at Beacon Awards 2025 were:
- Ms. C. Maria Akshita (Assisi Parish) – India's first fencer to compete in Egypt (November 2023), Khelo India gold medalist, and FCA member.
- Ms. Prathiksha S. (Class XII, Don Bosco Matric HSS, SV Nagar) – State rank holder.
- Ms. Gurushree X. (Don Bosco Matric HS, Madharpakkam) – Archdiocesan topper 2024.
“We celebrated their accomplishments as inspirational young leaders in faith, education, and sports,” said Archbishop Antonysamy.
The archdiocese extended its gratitude to parish priests, educators, and volunteers, reaffirming its commitment to shaping future leaders through faith and excellence.
