India: Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore conducts Orientation Program for Liturgy coordinators
The Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore has launched a series of orientation programs for liturgy coordinators across three of its twelve Vicariates.
Spearheaded by Fr. Dr. Arokia Joseph Jeyakumar, this initiative forms part of the broader preparation for the upcoming Jubilee 2025.
Under the guidance of Archbishop George Antony Swamy, the program aims to enhance the liturgical knowledge of lay leaders by focusing on the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, particularly the document Sacrosanctum Concilium on sacred liturgy.
These sessions are designed to deepen the understanding and implementation of liturgical practices, ensuring they are aligned with the vision of Vatican II.
The orientation includes comprehensive discussions on key Vatican II documents and their relevance to modern liturgical practices.
Participants, including liturgy coordinators from various parishes and Basic Christian Communities (BCCs), are gaining valuable insights into the practical application of these teachings, with a special focus on enhancing the spiritual experience of the faithful.
A key objective of the program is to harmonize local liturgical practices with the broader directives of the Vatican Council, thereby enriching the overall worship experience in the archdiocese.
The initiative is also a significant step towards fostering a more profound and informed celebration of the Jubilee 2025.
Coordinated by Fr. Arokia Raj, Secretary of the Archdiocesan BCC, the program has received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants. Many have expressed their appreciation for the depth of knowledge shared and the practical nature of the training.
As the Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission continues its work, this initiative not only equips liturgy coordinators with essential knowledge but also strengthens the spiritual foundation of the local Church in preparation for the momentous Jubilee celebration.- K. Arul Jesu Doss, Secretary
