Filipino Marriage Encounter Group reaffirms commitment to strengthening Marriages amidst Divorce Legislation
As the Philippine House of Representatives’ approval of the absolute divorce bill awaits Senate review, the Marriage Encounter Foundation of the Philippines (MEFP) has vowed to continue its mission of preserving and promoting the sanctity of marriage.
This was emphasized by Robert Aventajado, President of MEFP, during the President Couples’ Report at this year’s general assembly.
Speaking to the members, Aventajado, who co-leads the foundation with his wife Tinette, highlighted the unity and commitment of the group, reinforced by their shared dialogues and collaborative efforts.
“After the challenging work we’ve accomplished this past fiscal year, our primary focus now is thanksgiving—to God for guiding and inspiring us to continue our mission. We are also deeply grateful for the teachings shared by our spiritual advisors, which we continue to propagate nationwide,” Aventajado told Radio Veritas.
Aventajado expressed confidence that, through the solidarity showcased at the assembly, the MEFP would remain steadfast in its commitment to both its spiritual mission and its legal obligations.
As a registered organization under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the MEFP ensures compliance with legal requirements, which include conducting annual meetings.
“The MEFP is an SEC-registered foundation, and by law, we must hold these annual meetings. This afternoon’s meeting, from 2 PM to 4 PM, was followed by a holy mass and then our general assembly, where we come together as one big family to celebrate, share our achievements, and break bread,” Aventajado said, blending Filipino and English in his remarks.
The MEFP, founded in 1969 and part of Sangguniang Laiko sa Pilipinas (Council of the Laity of the Philippines), holds its annual general assembly to report significant accomplishments, introduce key updates, and share relevant information with its members.
Despite the ongoing discussions on the divorce bill, the foundation remains committed to its advocacy of strengthening marriages and supporting Filipino couples in their journey of faith and love.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
